In my free time: I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. In the summer, we like going away on weekend trips to our family home on Big Bear Lake. Doing anything that involves water. My kids love to swim in any body of water, including our beautiful ocean. I enjoy golfing with my buddies and afternoon barbecues with friends and family. I love coaching my son’s tee ball team and watching his golf swing improve. More than anything I love my time with my wife Keri, my son Clay and daughter Avery.

What I like about working at DebtWave: I enjoy working with our community. I love to speak and teach. Nothing gives me more fulfillment than when an audience gets involved with the presentation and lets me know how much they got out of it. Learning about credit and personal budgeting was something I had to learn for myself and it was a bumpy learning curve. I hope that the information that we provide in our presentations (to teenagers and adults) will have a positive impact on their futures.

A memorable story you have with a client: There are many that come to mind, but one really stands out to me. We will call her Pam for this. Pam had seen a seminar that we did for her company and called to meet with me about her credit card debt. When we met we discussed her budget and when she said she didn’t really use one I asked her to start tracking everything she spent for a month. When she came back after the month she said she had a pretty good idea why she was accumulating more credit card debt. As it turns out, she found that she was stopping off at a coffee shop four to five times a day, every day. With an average coffee at $4.00 that is $20 dollars a day, $140 a week which brings us to $7,280 a year. She now makes her own coffee.

Advice for current or future clients: Look in the mirror and be honest with yourself. The biggest hurdle in the process is taking a look at the reality of your finances. Then, track your spending and follow a budget. Budgeting is so easy now with software and/or apps like there is no reason to not do the best thing you can for your finances. Set goals for yourself and stick with them even though it sometimes will feel you will never get there. You will and it will feel great!

Comments from instructors who's classes or employees participate in DebtWave's Wave of the Future and Smart With Your Money presentations: I just wanted to let you know that you were outstanding and the hit guest speaker according to my students this past spring. Your work is AWESOME and all students should be required to attend your presentations!!! - Lori Waite, Palomar College
Thanks for coming to my classes. You have such important information for all of us. I learn something new every time.  The other great thing is that you summed up everything we teach all semester with time management, planning, values and goals  with the the budgeting and then the "values" with credit. - Anne Hedekin, San Diego Mesa College
