Entertainment
If you want to see a movie, do it during the day. Movies are expensive! Even the matinee price is getting up there, but it's a big savings! It's also much less crowded. Eat a snack or meal before going into the theater as well. We all know that a snack and a soda can run you well over $5 at the movies.
Visit your local library - yes they still exist. Instead of purchasing a book at an expensive bookstore, rent a book for free! The library usually offers more than books. Your local library might offer story times and activities, reading circles for different ages, movies, CDs, puzzles, games, and Internet access for multiple users.
Rent a movie instead of going out to the movies. Taking a family of 4 to the movies can run you over $50 nowadays (with snacks included). Stay at home, grab a snack and rent a movie all for under $10.
Give up a bad habit or try cutting down substantially to save extra money. Alcohol and/or tobacco are two expensive habits where if you stopped or cut down usage, a good chunk of money can be saved.
Don't overspend when it comes to buying toys and games for your children. Most children can be entertained very cheaply. Instead of giving them your money, give them your time. Most children value time with their parents the most.
Exchange DVDs, books, magazines, CDs, etc. with friends, neighbors, co-workers, and family members. One person's trash is another's treasure. Make it a habit to swap an item at least once a month.
Look into attending free community events in your neighborhood. Most communities have street fairs or other events that are fun and free. Look online or visit your local library for a list of events in your community.
Invite friends over for a night in instead of a night out. Have everyone bring their favorite food and drink. Staying in can be just as fun for usually less that half the price of going out for food and drinks.
Cancel any unused or perhaps any rarely used club memberships. Evaluate all memberships you are paying for and decide whether you are getting the most for your money.
